Predator Wildlife Workshop

Workshop Highlights:
  • Daily photograhic opportunities with the Big Five and a vast range of Africa's other wildlife.
  • Exclusive game viewer vehicles for the group.
  • Intimate and hands on photographic coaching including post processing tips (editing, retouching, workflow) with Lightroom and Photoshop.

Nestled into the game-rich Western Lebombo Mountains in Northern Zululand, lies the Sungulwane Private Game Lodge. Inspired by the Zulu word for “the view of the eye”, Sungulwane overlooks the exquisite, unspoiled 30000 hectares wilderness of the (Mun-Ya-Wana) Munyawana Game Reserve. Sungulwane is an exclusive Big 5 Safari lodge with just 8 private chalets. It’s the ultimate intimate African bush experience with its tall thickets, grassveld, savanna, thornveld and pockets of dense woodland.

This Big Five game reserve borders the iSimangaliso Wetland Park which is a world heritage site and authentically encapsulates the true spirit of Zululand. The Munyawana is an incredibly diverse conservation area boasting lion, elephant, rhino, buffalo, cheetah, leopard and the occasional wild dog. Not to mention an abundance of prolific plains game including impala, zebra, wildebeest, warthog, nyala, bushbuck, giraffe and of course a plethora of birds. It’s particularly famous for its awe-inspiring cheetah sightings.

Day 1: Arriving at Sungulwane:

All guests to arrive at Sungulwane Private Game reserve by 1:00pm with own transport, all details including map will be provided when making a booking. After settling in we will meet for a short introduction what will be done over the coming days. In the afternoon we head off on our first open photography game drive session. Weather conditions play a huge roll in the actual day-to-day activities schedules, we wait until we know what the weather is going to do and then decide on the next day's itinerary.

Day 2 ~ 4: Daily Workshop Schedules:

We will have photography talks and editing sessions in a private area in the camp for about 2 hours between game drives. Here we will discuss some of the images from the last game drive session. Morning and evening game drives will include coffee and rusks with adequate water available. Each day we will have a brunch after the morning game drive and a dinner after the the afternoon game drive at the main dining area or in an exclusive area set aside for our workshop.

We have exclusive use of a vehicle so we determine our own schedule and if we need to leave earlier or later or drive a certain route we decide with the guidance of the local Ranger.

Each evening at dinner we discuss the next days activities based on weather conditions, here is what you can expect from the indoor and outdoor sessions:

  • Camera modes, dials and settings.
  • Exposure, metering, histograms and focusing.
  • Composing your shots / framing your shots.
  • Creative nature / scenic shots; low light, long exposures, panning, using DOF, bracketing, etc.
  • Landscape techniques and tips.
  • Understanding exposure compensation and when to use it.
  • Astrophotography and star trails (weather and time permitting).
  • Post processing and workflow tips in LR and PS.
Day 5: Final day:
